On Thursday in her home surrounded by her loved ones, the Lord came and gracefully received her unto
himself.
Mrs. Mattie B. Kinney was born June 26, 1929 in Madison, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late
Amanda Lightfoot and Willie Smith.
She moved to Cleveland in 1941. She received her formal education in the Public Schools.
She was introuduced to her future husband, the late Mr. J.L. Kinney by her best friend, "Corean".
When he met her he knew she would be his wife. The courtship blossomed and they were married March
29, 1947. From this union of eight children were born.
She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Mattie was known for her cakes and pies, especially her
famous chocolate pies. She was a caring and loving lady, always willing to help wherever needed.
Though she was the mother of eight children, she was known to many as "Ma Kinney".
She was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. J. Solomon Sutton
ll. She was a member of the Nurses Guild until her illness.
She was employed by the City of Cleveland until her retirement in 1994.
She leaves to carry on in this life her loving children: Barbara Jean, Linda, Jerome(Verna),
Timothy(Lametria), Elaine(Joe), Eileen (Charles),Arnold and Beverly(Charlie), 1 sister Seleema
Clarke, 18 grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren, grandson Demetrius preceded her in dealth,
mother in laws, Mrs. Leara Robinson, 12 brother-in-laws, 9 sister-in-laws, Addie and Carmella
preceded her in death, 1 uncle, 2 aunts, 1 god Sabrina, and two dear friends, Verna Brooks ad
Bernice Yancy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
